Undoubtedly, the oceans and seas that stretch across the globe face undeniable challenges. We recognize the urgency for action, not only to preserve these precious marine resources, but also to safeguard our own future and that of generations to come.

The principle of "Think global, act local", anchored in the 1980s, and the adage "Who protects a sea, protects the seas of the whole world" initially guide us towards targeted action, in this case towards the Baltic Sea, a sea familiar to our team.

The Baltic Sea, surrounded by nations rich in history, culture and identity, is a sea of  manifold beauty and places steeped in history.

It is linked to all of the world's oceans and seas through the Cattegat and Skagerrak marine corridors in Denmark which give it access to the North Sea.

The nine bordering countries all have intense maritime activity.

However, the ecological problems are indisputable mainly due to its semi-closed configuration, its shallow depth, its intense maritime activity and spills from the nine riparian coastal countries. Currently, geopolitical tensions exacerbated by the evolution of the situation in Ukraine, where the Baltic Sea plays the role of the first European barrier, further threaten this precarious situation.

This is why we refuse to remain simple neutral spectators and mark our solidarity with the actors who are already working on solutions to this problem.

MB D79 is a non-profit association represented by Martin Bez. The initial supporting members come from the Art World: gallery owners, collectors and knowledgeable amateurs and their know-how is to bring things to light.

This association fuses solidarity, ecology and culture around the Baltic Sea and the nations that border it. A unique desire drives:

To mark solidarity and raise awareness among the general public about the crucial preservation of the Baltic Sea, while celebrating this cause through an emblematic artistic work by Jean Denant.

It is a brilliant stainless steel cutout, meticulously polished to reflect light like the shimmering surface of the sea. This masterpiece faithfully depicts the contours of the Baltic Sea, captures its very essence and unites the countries which border it into a common identity. It is not simply a work of art, but a vibrant call to action in favor of nature whose commitment to solutions it symbolizes.

MB D79 Project comes will come to life through a series of events and exhibitions in coastal towns along the Baltic Sea. Around the works of Jean Denant, it is an opportunity to provide information on progress in the preservation of the Baltic Sea and to reaffirm the solutions to be consider. These events will create valuable opportunities for meetings, exchanges and commitments to the Baltic Sea cause.

"The ultimate objective, perhaps ambitious but full of hope, is to finance through the activity of the association and the involvement of its members the installation of monumental, mirrored works facing the Sea, each proudly adorning an emblematic wall of a coastal country. These shiny mirrors then become luminous bearers of awareness and eloquently trace the contours of the Baltic Sea with a visual and symbolic echo between united nations."

Some examples below of emblematic walls which could be load-bearing. These propositions are fictitious. Born from our imagination, they exist only to try to make the dream possible. We are looking for walls all around the Baltic Sea. We are counting on you to talk about it to those around you and give us ideas so that we can offer facilities.

We are waiting for your proposals: Simply send us a photo of a wall and a photo of the view facing this wall with a short description without forgetting your name, your nationality and an authorization to use it in public.

Thanks in advance 😉

Murs
More than 400 photos and 40 videos on the MBD79 spring 2024 coastal tour of the countries bordering the Baltic Sea. It was a sort of inventory of the situation, punctuated by meetings, exchanges and presentations, with the ultimate aim of finding strong locations facing the Baltic with a view to installing the mirror card symbolising the MBD79 action.
