Culture has the power to strengthen our communities and increase our social resilience. The Culture for Resilience Forum 2024, an event focusing on the role of culture in societal resilience and community strengthening, Jakobstad/Pietarsaari, Finlande.
MBD79 had the opportunity to take part in the forum held on 7 and 8 May.
The participants were professionals with a serious background working in the fields of urban planning, tourism, culture, education, entertainment, art, etc., and coming from all the countries around the Baltic, including a Spaniard and the Frenchman that I am.
It's all about sharing knowledge, exchanging experiences and debating ideas. It's a really rewarding experience.
‘In addition to the open-mindedness of the participants, I was really impressed by the quality of the debates and the intensity of the workshops. I came away with a very positive feeling and a touch of hope buoyed up by this great energy.’
Jean Denant's polished stainless steel work of art, depicting the Baltic Sea, was placed at the entrance to the forum and made a strong impression on the participants, both visually and in terms of contacts.
A small artwork map remains in Jakobstad. It will be exhibited to the public and will serve as a reminder of the need to take account of the state of the sea in future developments. And why not think about installing a larger work in the years to come?
I must add that I discovered a beautiful Finland in and around Jakobstad,
Many thanks to all the participants, not forgetting the fantastic organisers.
